Come January, Alaska Airlines will provide regular service to Havana.

The Seattle-based airline announced Tuesday that starting Jan. 5, it
will fly daily from Los Angeles to the Cuban capital. Alaska Airlines
says it's the only company flying nonstop to Cuba from the West Coast.

Alaska Airlines and other companies earlier this month got final
approval from the U.S. government for such flights after decades of
travel restrictions between the U.S. and Cuba, though some
restrictions still remain.

Flights from Seattle and Anchorage will connect to the new route to
Cuba, Alaska Airlines said. Tickets for the new flights are on sale as
of Tuesday.

The flights are still subject to approval from the Cuban government.
Alaska Airlines is one of eight companies the U.S. Department of
Transportation has approved for flights to the island nation.
