The remnants of Tropical Storm Emily dumped 200 millimeters of rain in
less than 24 hours on Guamá in Santiago province, causing rivers to
overflow and damaging roads, two factories, and several dozen homes.
The strategic Carretera Granma coastal highway, which is already in an
advanced state of deterioration from previous storms, was literally cut
in two locations, according to Communist Party daily Granma. A
pasteurization and an ice factory were flooded, as were 37 homes. The
official daily didn't provide damage estimates.
