Cuba Updates Idle Lands Stock

Havana, Jul 19 (Prensa Latina) A new survey on the situation of land,
aimed at determining the level of idle lands throughout the country, is
currently implemented, Juventud Rebelde reported on Tuesday.

Anibal Nuñez, deputy director of the National Land Control Center
(CNCT), stated that the current census will update information provided
in the last survey, held in 2007, and reveal what the current panorama
is in that aspect, states the note.

The process to deliver idle lands, stipulated in the Decree Law 259 of
2008, continues advancing. Nearly15,975 new files have been dealt with
from January to June this year, 12,795 of them were approved, Nuñez said.

The executive said that there are still some problems so many areas
belonging to state-owned institutions or cooperatives are declared idle
by their managers, he noted.

The current idle land fund in the island has now reached 1,868,210
hectares, 67.7 percent by the Decree Law 259 has been delivered, and
77.1 percent are now in production.
